About #Author, Shirley Harris-Slaughter – @Sharrislaughter #RRBC

Hello!  My name is Shirley Harris-Slaughter, and I am the author of  Our Lady of Victory, the Saga of an African-American Catholic Community.  It was written out of a necessity to preserve our community’s history and it came about, not a moment too soon. The church’s school was torn down after the book was published and the only pictures I was able to locate are in the book.  I’m extremely proud of this project.

A little more about me:

I am a Michigan native. I was baptized into the Catholic faith with my family as a child. I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Cleary University in Howell, Michigan in 1992.  I am married to Langston, and we reside in Oak Park, MI.

My college thesis entitled: “The Implementation of the Most Comprehensive Approach to Restoring the Michigan Central Depot” was about saving a dilapidated historic train station in downtown Detroit.  I resurrected the Friends of the Michigan Central Depot and brought attention to this neglected piece of history.

My love of history has propelled me to write about my experience growing up in the catholic community and correcting its omission from the pages of history.

As a new Author, you are a great inspiration and role model to me. I look forward to learning from you, and it’s so much more personal, because we are family. Thanks for being the Woman of God who personifies humility and truth.
    I love you Cousin!

Cuz, I’m so glad you finally visited my site. And thank you for having confidence in me as a writer. A lot of folks want to write but you actually did it. That makes you part of the club. I hope you are learning some things about why I started to write. I had something to say…never knowing I could actually write a book. I asked God to help me since He inspired me to do it.

Good luck on your book. Since your website didn’t show up in your post I am putting it here: keitawalker.com/home

The story of your history had to be documented so you made it happen. I will soon be writing my manuscript of my healing from epilepsy, by the grace of God! First, I had to get the Poetry published since it was my original intent. Thank you for your support.

Okay. I’ll put the direct location of the book.

I can’t wait to read your story. That is something to tell. I have seen God’s blessings in my own life. About the time I got touched while sitting in a limosine in Inkster getting ready to go to an ice cream parlor. It can happen anywhere. I have had my prayers answered–so many examples. I need to write another book myself. Never intended to be a writer but some things you have no control over.
